Trip to G Sushi

Last night was a night where the girls were able to eat before practiceand so it was just the boys and us on our own for dinner.  The littlestone requested that we go to G Sushi so that he can "take the food offthe boat." and since my wife and I had never been there before (myMother has taken the kids more than a few times) we decided to make himhappy and check it out.

What can I say?  Food was good.  Cost wasn't too out there.  Got oneboy to do a little "math" practice with the colored plates and roundednumbers.  And the littlest one had fun grabbing his food off offloating boats.

Fun time!

Costco Gas Special Excursion

The other night on Twitter one of the topics that came up was the longlines at Costco gas.  Since the price dropped to below $3.00/gallon forregular grade gas the lines have been crazy over there.  It wassuggested by @nctrlbst that at 5:00am when they open is the best timebecause there he said there were no lines. So since my wife's car wasrunning low on gas and she drives an Expedition, I decided last nightthat I would wake up early this morning.

I arrived at about 5:10am.  Here is what awaited me.

It ended up being about a 10-15 minute wait which wasn't too bad andwell worth the drive down there for the price!

By the time I had filled up and left the line was making it's way outtowards Dillingham.  Not quite there yet, but definitely working itsway there that is for sure.

Thanks @nctrlbst!  I think! Nah, just kidding.  This was longer than Ihad hoped to see but still way better than when we've tried over thelast week or so and definitely much cooler to not be waiting in the sun.

My 15 Year Old Daughter and Her Baby

My 15 year old daughter just had a baby boy.

Baby's name is Damian Kealoha S. and weighed EXACTLY 5lbs.  We knowthis because it started out as a 5lb bag of rice.

I wanted her to name the kid Musubi.

Kewalo Basin Coolpix Video

Forgot I was going to post this video too that I took with the camera. I'm hoping that it is because my SD card isn't the fastest or meant for video and that is why there are some artifacts in the video. Of course YouTube messes with it too so that might be hard to tell now that it was converted.

Sorry about the wind noise too. Don't have any screen over it yet.

Nikon Coolpix Taken for a Ride

Decided to run out to see if I could find a case for the Nikon Coolpix that wasn't too bulky. I was going to resort to using a thick sock, but did end up finding a case that I think will serve what I wanted it to which is basically something to protect the camera but not take up so much space that it made the small camera bulky. Here is what I found at WalMart for $9.00.

The case is reversible so when I get tired of that pattern thing I can turn it inside out and it will be all black.

After that I picked up lunch at the lunch wagon behind Sam's Club/WalMart. Grilled Teriyaki Ahi Plate all white rice.

Took a few pics at Kewalo Basin just to see how they would come out. Nothing fancy, just mostly point and shoot.

Also stopped by Waikiki on my way home and shot a few pics there as well. This one is my favorite and not for the obvious reasons.

Texting while sunning yourself on the beach at Waikiki?! C'mon now!

My New Nikon Coolpix S550 Digital Camera

Got a new toy today and I can't wait to start using it! Expect some nicer pictures posted to my blogs from now on. At least I hope so that is. A good camera can't fix a lousy photographer.

In any case, here is the unboxing of my new Nikon Coolpix camera.

I had been doing some research for a new camera because my old camera is REALLY old and was an awesome 2mp camera! Whoo hoo! Actually that camera has served me well through the years, but it was just time to move up.

This S550 was my pick because of the price and features. Mainly less than $200 on the price. I actually used some Rewards points certificates and so the cash out of pocket was even less. Ended up picking it up for $162.22 out the door. And I'm supposed to be getting a FREE Gorilla tripod thing mailed to me too.

I almost picked this camera up for $186 at Sam's Club but they didn't have any in stock. Amazon had them for $179 and free shipping but I kept hoping for something local and found it.

At first when I went online shopping Best Buy showed the camera at $199 and it was out of stock here locally at both Best Buy stores. Then last night I went back on a whim and the price had dropped and it was with a free Gorilla tripod thing. On top of that it showed that the Aiea store had it in stock so I placed my order and waited for the email message this morning confirming that it would be waiting for me and it was.

The Best Buy process of ordering online and picking up is the best that I have tried so far (I haven't tried a lot though). The instructions in the email confirmation were very clear and the pickup was as smooth as they described. Special parking space, stop by customer service, show my credentials and within a minute of them entering it into the system I was leaving with my brand new camera. Very nice!

In any case, am now waiting for the battery to charge so that I can try it out!

Hawaii Old Navy Sale - The Challenge

My sister who works at the Ala Moana Center Old Navy store in Hawaii is now mocking me about my blog and tweeting. About a month ago she sent me (and a whole bunch of family members) an email message saying that they were having a BFF sale and it was a crazy sale with all kinds of discounts and such and to spread the word to whoever. So I figured what the heck and I posted it to my blog, which automatically created a tweet about it. Not thinking anything more about it because they mostly ignore me in any Old Navy (they know I'm not going to buy anything) I just went about my day.

A week or so later I was looking over the stats for that post and noticed some links coming in from Google on the keywords "Old Navy BFF" so I did the search and found out that my post comes up as the second non-paid for link on Google. So I told my sister that I get better search placement than Old Navy does. To which she was like "whatevers" which is her typical response to any "computer stuffs" that I ever try to talk to her about.

Fast forward to today's mocking email.

So Mr. I get so many hits bragger....get the word out on this..

Just started today -

ALL WOMEN'S CLEARANCE MERCHANDISE (stuff marked down with red stickers) are ADDITIONAL 50% OFF the lowest clearance price. Women's clothing only.

Also, we have A TON OF WOMEN'S TANK TOPS, SHORTS, SLEEVELESS ITEMS AND MENS POLOS FOR $1.99!!!!! (CORRECTION:$2 event is only from 10/16-10/19) With the additional 50% off in WOMEN'S MERCHANDISE ONLY that makes the items only $.99 for the women's tanks and sleeveless!!!

ADDITIONAL 50% OFF IS ONLY AT THE ALA MOANA STORE AND IS ONLY ON WOMEN'S MERCHANDISE...WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!!!

OPEN AN OLD NAVY CREDIT CARD AND YOU CAN SAVE AN ADDITIONAL 10% OFF THE ALREADY MARKED DOWN PRICES!!!!

But it is crazy busy right now already and it isn't even advertised.

For the record I never said I get plenty of hits to my blog, I said that I had a better ranking then they did for that search.

Ok, so for you geeky types out there, I don't get a whole lot of hits or readers at this blog so I'm not saying that it is the most popular thing in the world. And I do know that it is more a testament to the fact that that particular combination of keywords is what got the good search placement and may not be the most searched combination for Old Navy stuff. BUT, we're talking about sibling rivalry here so lie, cheat and steal are all good in love and war, right?

-Da Rat.

PS. If you do find yourself taking advantage of the sale, don't forget to tell the cashier that ParkRat sent you. It won't get you anything but it will drive my sister nuts! Hahaha.

Just like Nibbits only BETTER!

We picked up a couple of bags of these at the New Food and ProductsShow this weekend and I'm sorry we didn't pick up more!

I used to LOVE to eat Nibbits especially with a ham sandwich made withhot dog buns.  Major YUM!  But then the cook (or baker) must have leftand took the recipe with him/her because it just hasn't been the same. Those of you who are true Nibbits aficionados know what I'm talkingabout.  First it was the same shape but wasn't as tasty.  Then theydisappeared for a while.  Then it came back with a different shape butsame no kick in the taste to it.

I thought my Nibbits eating days were over.  And actually they are nowbecause Hawaiian Luau Barbeque Rings are KING!  If you break them upand eat up with your eyes closed you would get crumbs all over theplace probably, but you would think that you were back in the good olddays when Nibbits were actually delicious.

Mahalo Tim's Cascade Snacks! So ONO!

This Weekend is for the Birds!

Today after dropping my Grandmother back at home we decided to make a quick stop at Windward Mall. It has been a long while since we've been there so was kind of nice to see that the mall seems to have come back from the ghost town it was the last time we were there. Now most if not all of the spaces were filled and there wasn't the same gloomy feeling that was there in our previous trip.

In any case, I snapped a few pics with my camera phone before my phone started complaining that it was running out of battery power. Guess I should have charged it up last night. In any case, after taking the pictures and thinking about yesterday's trip to Petland I realized that this weekend was full of birds! Oh and a turtle.

Quick Stop at Petland

Needed to get some crickets for the semi-pet chameleons that the boys caught. While there we saw some birds that looked a whole lot like some Tweetterer I know.

These two were fighting over a piece of string or something.

And these guys just had their own little gang thing happening.

The place is going to the birds!

Beachside Lunching

Today's lunch was supposed to be left over Subway sandwich and some pretzels but as it turns out I ended up going to St Louis Okazuya with my wife instead. After dropping the wife back off at her work I decided to go and try and was headed home when I realized that it was too hot a day to go home and use more electricity so I made a detourand headed for the beach.

Ended up finding parking near the Natatorium and so I parked the card and found a table barely in the shade. Ate my lunch, fed the flying rats (pigeons) and then decided to take a quick look around and snapped some quick pics with my digicam. Here are some of the pics.

Lucky we live Hawaii, right?!

Well for what feels like the millionth time I have re-launched The Sports 'n Kidz Network, this time as a social networking site.

For those that know of this site it has taken on many forms for the over 10 years that I have been trying to make something happen with this concept.

Basically the idea was simple, our kids need to live active lifestyles in order to live long and healthy lives. The earlier in life that someone adopts an active lifestyle the more chances there are that that person will maintain that lifestyle. We as parents sometimes find it difficult to help our child find the right activity for them as not all sports are meant for all people. A place to go for not only information on what is available to our children, but also one where we can ask questions and get support so that our children can fully enjoy themselves.

Those basic ideas is what ends up in the attempt to find the correct form for The Sports 'n Kidz Network. And I hope this is the final "big change" that it will have to undertake to be able to serve those needs efficiently and serve the purpose that I always had hoped it would.

If you are interested in kids and sports, please join us at The Sports 'n Kidz Network!

Get Active!

Trey and Ty @tadasauce Fans

One morning I was messing around on Twitter and @tadasauce posted a link to his YouTube page and so I started poking around and came across this video that he made.

It cracked me up, especially the comment about he must be from MidPac because when I first saw the video I thought, that is something my brother-in-law who is also from MidPac would do.

In any case, I showed it to my kids and they had a good laugh. Little did I know that the seed was now planted. Ever since that day the boys have frequently and for no good reason just popped into song and this is what comes out.

They are like sponges. Curses you @tadasauce!!!

Sent to the wife and kids off to school this morning under a nice rainbow. Didn't realize we had so many wires running across the front of our house!

Old School! Timex Sinclair ZX81

Just recently I was going through some boxes in our closet and I cameacross this very old but extremely invaluable find.  The first personalcomputer I ever owned!

The reason why this computer is so invaluable is not only because itwas the first that I ever owned, but mostly because it was given to meby my Grandparents.  To this day they don't know how to work a computerand probably never will.  I was very surprised (and actually should askthem if they remember) that they would even have the know how topurchase something like this for me.  I believe it was mail orderedwhich back then was not something that was automated which I guess ispart of what made it possible for them to do.

This computer has stayed with me longer than my Apple IIe.  My Mac II. My IBM PC and my Epson.  Amongst a whole lot of other computers thatcame after that.  For someone who now makes a living working on acomputer, this first was a huge milestone in my life and one that Iwill always be appreciative of my Grandparents for providing.

Thanks Grandpa and Grandma!
